The development of community service projects aims to increase the opportunities for young people to get involved in their community by participating in volunteer projects that are in line with the objectives of the Quebec Youth Policy.
Volunteering promotes social involvement in the community and plays an important role in the development of a young person’s sense of belonging to the community. This can have positive effects on their personal and academic development and foster their understanding of local issues.
An involvement in the community promotes the social inclusion of the youth and allows them to develop skills and competencies that can be transferred to other spheres of their lives. While we note the decisive role played by the family in learning the values and norms associated with engagement, the school, in that it reaches all young people, also represents an important agent of socialization and a favourable environment for experimenting with forms of engagement.
